In 1989 a group of 22 photographers from Cranhill and surrounds began what was to become the single biggest photographic project ever undertaken in Scotland. By 1993 the Cranhill Arts photographers captured nearly 40,000 portraits of their fellow citizens. Working in black and white and colour, photographs were taken all over the city – at work, at school, the young, the old, the carers and the cared for, in the pubs, the clubs and on the streets.
The GLASWEGIANS photographs create a unique insiders portrait of our city.

Recently a new digital archive, created by the community and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has scanned and archived the original negatives. Using modern digital techniques, the large scale, thorough exhibition at Platform celebrates this new Glaswegians Archive.
The new exhibition at Platform is the biggest display of the Glasgwegians photographs in 35 years.
